New Orleans 2012: A little film

Dear friend,

Falling asleep after a train ride home is lovely, sad, and bittersweet. As soft and comforting as our very own duvet is, the instant we close our eyes we feel rocked by the steel rails all over again. For me, traveling is splendid and beautiful and heartbreaking and tragic: all in turns, and all at once. It's especially difficult to leave a city like New Orleans, as if there are any cities "like New Orleans".

But on to new adventures! This month is but halfway over...

Love,

Rebekka

Oh Rebekka that is just how I feel about travelling, as beautiful and incredible it is it can also be utterly overwhelming and tragic. Always beautiful though.

Sarah Dee,

I used my camera, which is a Sony A65 DSLR, and I threw it together in IMovie :)

That video was so great! I've never been to New Orleans, but I kind of felt like I was there as I was watching it. Looks like an amazing time.

ah! such a fun film- like a virtual scrapbook of your trip. the last time i was in new orleans was fabulous, but wasn't for vacation. i went with a group of lovely people to help clean up after katrina. i'd love to go again now, after a lot of it's been rebuilt. and now my husband flies down for work all the time. perhaps i'll jump on a plane and go with him one of these days! thanks for sharing!

New Orleans is a city I would love to visit someday, and your video is how I pictured it. The steamy streets after a summer rain, and the sugar coated beignets. Looks amazing Rebekka, you really captured such a nice snippet of time in your vacation.

Thanks for sharing.

I swear is there anything you can't do? This video was so awesome. I've already had New Orleans on my list of places to visit, but this video made me ache to see it even more! How fun =) So glad you had a great time.

I just adore your style. So fresh! Your house paintings are fab. Can I ask what size they typically are? I really loved comparing your painting to the actual photo you had of the dilapidated house with the gorgeous swooping roof lines. Would it be an imposition of your clients' privacy to post the original photos along with the finished painting? Totally understand, if so. I must have looked back and forth at the one photo and it's painting 50 times. You are a true artist.

I love your dreamy, simplistic, earthy images. It makes me want to paint whatever random thing is floating through my head..if i could figure out what that was. (!)
I have a question I hope is not too invasive...when I (try to) paint I have lots of trouble with edges looking wiggly. How are your borders of your subjects so perfectly straight and clean? Do you mask them off? I guess I might just be going too slow (Orr too fast?) and I have messy lines.
What are your inspirations? You inspire me!

I love that you filmed in the spotted cat, my favorite place to go at night and listen to music and dance. new or leas is a dream and so wonderful and you captured some of it's magic. i adore this vignette.
