Light and Rest

Dear friend,

Are you on the East coast? How are things over there? I've been waiting to hear back from my friends in NYC, all the while riveted by the television and too much coffee. I'm sending all my love to everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy. I know what it's like to get your whole life ripped apart by a hurricane, even if the ripping is only temporary. It's still your whole life.

This is what it looks like here. Windy, with gray skies and diffused sunlight. Quietly pretty.

The moon was so beautiful last night, swollen and full, and buried among clouds that were shirred and white on the black sky. Looking up at a sky like that can feel just as sad as it does lovely. Sometimes it feels like you're staring up at nothing but a big, peculiar, unanswered question.

I wish all of you sunshine and warmth, and light and rest today, and through the week as well <3

Love,

Rebekka

We live in Norwich, Connecticut and thought the storm was going to be much worse for us. Luckily we only lost power for a bit but there are a lot of trees down.
I hope you hear back from your friends soon.

Lovely words, Rebekka. It was odd seeing that beautiful Hunter's moon last night (and this morning) with so much turmoil elsewhere. About 49,000 homes are without power in Quebec but we were luckily unscathed by the storm. There was even a rainbow this morning and I saw Twitter photos of a rainbow in Manhattan this morning too. Nature is so full of contradictions.

I was able to face time with my oldest son in Bayside, NY this morning. His block has electricity. My youngest son in NJ was able to text this morning that he is ok and hopes to have electricity by midnight. My oldest son's business on 5th street in Manhattan is closed until transportation is sorted out. I hope your friends are ok as well, Rebekka. xx from Gracie

I so enjoy reading your blog. My husband and I huddled in our Maryland condo through Sandy this week. She was scary enough here I can't imagine how people in NYC felt.
Keep writing and posting! =)
